I was wanting to know, if anybody does more Adult venues, than kids. We are looking to try the Bar/Nightclub scene, but we are not sure how to go about it. We are finding more an more adults are getting into the tats, and I want to start marketing to adults too. Any advice would be helpful.

We do mostly fairs, and festivals, but are looking at branching into some club style stuff over the winter. At the festivals we see a pretty good mix of kids and adults. It just depends on what you want to do I think, and where you want to go.

I second that...For a different reason. I have this "kid threshhold" and my brain sounds an obnoxious alarm within minutes of being around kids. You see... It's not that I don't like kids... I just feel better when they are not around :D
Are Bars / Clubs pretty much the way to go when focusing more on adult business?

If you do a search for night clubs on the forrum you will find a good bit of info about it. We do a club here in town every wedensday and make about 250 to 300 after paying 20%. Good luck!

that whether I'm booked for a kids b-day or I do some type of fair or fest that majority of my customers are adults. I've noticed that if I did a kids b-day all the parents end up with tats too, I've even had the adult push the kids out of the way so they could be firs. It was pretty funny. It never hurts to try different venues, you might be surprised.

I think it all depends on the festival and area that you are in, I live in a rural area and most that I do are children. Very few adults.

I did a few different Bars. I dont know if it was just me or ? But I did not do so well at them. I mean the people that got one were happy, just think in my area I think they were more worried about getting loaded lol. Maybe I will try again in the winter months...

I have never gone after kids (4-13) so much as teens and adults. I think that for our area at least the demographic for fake tattoos are the teen girls. I do them on all ages and most people love them but I focus on events and locations that draw a teenage crowd.
A great place to get a mix is outdoor concerts - teens get them all day then when the adults have a little liquid motivation they get them at night.
As for the younger kids - I am in a mall food court where I see 10-15 birthday parties a week for the younger kids. The pattern is always the same - dad comes in with a bunch of bags and cake and starts to set up. After 15-20 minutes the kids come in all with build-a-bear boxes and go to the party. They have their cake, ride the carousel, and leave. Every time I strike up a conversation with dad - opening with a joke "let me guess, mom gets to have fun at build a bear and you are stuck setting up by yourself haha" we have a laugh then I say "I'll let you set up but if you are interested the birthday boy/girl gets a free tattoo of their choosing and everyone else in the party gets a discount $1, $2, $3 depending on the tattoo." I have only been able to convert one party... It might be because they already spent a lot of money on bears and what not but either way I haven't been too successful in that age bracket.

Stacey: We cater to adults as well as children. While bars can be ok for making some money it is not the reason people go to bars to get tattoos, It's Drinking! But we have done naughty parties, adult custome parties, gay, political, motor events etc, etc. Some times you just have to give it a shot and try them out. What works for me may not work out for you.
Contact the bar owner and work a deal out for space and probably a percentage that will go back to them from the sales of tattoo. Today most business owners are looking to increase there volume of customers and cash. Maybe offer a stencil with there name or logo on it. It may just be what sweeten's the deal. Good luck!

I would not limit myself to nether and do both. we do all adults and kids as well. we carry a varity of stencils for all ages. I would get business cards made and hand them out. A web site will do you very well. every one goes there to see the kind of work you do and all the smiles that people end up giving you while getting the tattoo done.
Hell, I can be doing 4 kids and the next thing I know is the dad or the mom sayes hey can I get one. is this just for kids and I say its for every one. next thing you know, you are doing both.

We are very well established on the kid end (going on 4 years), we were just wanting to try somethin different, "add a little to the mix", I quess you could say. I just wanted to see how many other people do "adult" stuff and how they go about getting those kinds of gigs.
Thanks for the in-put so far.

I think GLAMROCK is big into the bar scene. She said she just searches the web for a list of bars/clubs in the area and shoots them an email. She said she gets pretty good and fast replies. Depending on how you do the search, some have the email listed along with a phone number and others (most) have their web link. Then it's just a matter of going to their site -> contact us -> and get their email.

We were contacted by a nudist resort this year, for a 4 day event. No one under 18 was allowed, and clothing was optional. We had a good time, but made little money, as no one was expecting us to be there. We got a couple of leads on private stuff, including a possible night club gig, and a birthday party or 2. While we didn't do so well this year, we have agreed to go back next year, knowing that the folks know we will be there, and so will be more inclined to come see us. Also, the adults are the ones who look for entertainment for their kids parties, and if they don't see you, they won't know you are available.
